The Critter Crunch this year was as fun as ever. FRR did our
usual warm-up show before the start of the Critter combat. Dennis
Clark did a great job again doing the MC work. We showed our Mini-Sumos,
Object Grabbers, and our version of Autonomous Critters. In-between
the small and larger critter competitions we moved out to a main walk way
and showed lots of folks our robots. Folks really seem to like the
aggressive and plucky little Mini-Sumos. The Object Grabbers again
captured the possibilities of real robots doing real work in the real world!
Right photo is some of our autonomous Critters showing there fight!
The nice thing about the larger class robots is they had lots of battery
power, so we ran them a lot! Click on a picture for a larger version.

Terrys pioneering Field Theory Critter, fully autonomous and using
his Theremin Vision sensor system got is first taste of battle! Left
is Field Theory going against a RC robot with a air power flipper system.
Terrys bot got tossed around a bit! Then came a totally unexpected
robot in the center photo. Terrys bot had to contend with a robot
with a Tazer mounted on a very simple platform controlled by a tether.
Terrys bot got Zapped! Loosing one of the four Thermin Vision sensors.
Blurry photo right shows the 1 1/2" 120,000 volt arc! Terry already
hads a solution to make the electronics able to survive such a nasty bot!

These photos are of other larger 20 pound remote controlled Critters.
Including one of Terrys large Critters in the right photo, getting a quick
charge.

Terry Fritz was the busiest of us, being he had three Critters in this
years events! Left, Terry wins! Center, Terry gets hit hard!
Right, Terrys bot doesn't win every time! This year Terrys Ti-Wrex
came in second place, Ti-Tan third. Not as good as last years first
place but still really great showing! The other folks had better
watch out for next year!
