Some 3D Photos from
November 2004
Its been a bit of a slow month for meetings. So here are some 3D
anaglyph images of some robots. Also included at the top are a
couple of 2D photos of the bots for folks that don't have the Red/Blue
glasses needed to see the 3D effect in the 3D pictures. The 3D
anaglyph images are generated using a normal digital camera. A
left and offset right image is taken by simply shifting the camera a
bit when talking the two pictures. Then a freeware program is
used to make the anaglyph image.
The freeware program is available at http://www.stereoeye.jp/index_e.html
The Red / Blue glasses to make the 3D image work can be ordered from a
number of sites on the web. There are on occasion 3D picture
books that have the cheep cardboard glasses available with the book, so
check your local book store. Some novelty shops I hear also my
have them.
Give your eyes a moment to become accustomed to the image. There
is a little ghosting in the images, apparently the color filters are
not able to completely remove the image that each eye shouldn't
see. Also my technique is still in its infancy. Still its
fun to get a better feel for a object that you may never get to see in
person!

Left 2D photo is the probably the clubs smallest robot. Built by Dave
Hygh. It uses a Pic 16F628 and uses IR reflective sensors for
forward and floor detection. As with all of Daves robots it makes
lots of fun sounds! The Right 2D photo is a Object Grabber robot
by Galen Raben. It uses the color of the objects to figure out
what its got. Check out Galens web site for more details of his
robot. http://home.viawest.net/users/graben/Bots.htm
Now for the 3D versions of the
robots. Don't worry the pictures will only give you a little
headache!
